Netsuke Man
I need help identifying a netsuke/value.?

I own a netsuke that was given to me by my grandpa, who was a huge art collector. HE said it was real, and made from ivory. However, I have no other info. It is a bald man in a flowered robe, seated, that is stretching out and yawning. There are japanese characters on the bottom, but I don’t speak japanese. So, I looked all over the internet, and found nothing that looked like my netsuke. Does anyone have some websites/ suggestions on how to find it’s origins/value?

If your netsuke is genuine, it is made of walrus ivory, not the kind that comes from an elephant. Value varies a great deal, depending in age, condition and quality. You can find knowledgeable dealers in New York, Boston or San Francisco, or you can wait until Antiques Roadshow next comes to town.
