Lapidary Carving

What do I get concise?
I begin to carve soft stones like alabaster, soapstone and onyx. Nothing great things simple as arrowheads and small animals pending. What tools do I need?
My husband joined a local gem / lapidary chapter. Usually has a cost, but have all the tools you need and the other members are there to help in the learning process. Good luck!
